Biography

Trumpeter JOSH KRAUS is a captivating performer, passionate educator, and thoughtful arranger who currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. At 23 years old Josh has performed around the nation, placed in competitions, educated award winning ensembles, performed on CD’s, and arranged music nationally. As a performer, he has competed in the Quarterfinals for the National Trumpet Competition. He has also appeared with the Greensboro Opera, Winston-Salem Symphony, Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, and Triangle Brass Band. He was a Distinguished Music Scholar at the University of Delaware, a Merit Scholarship recipient, and part of an advertising campaign for UNCG as a representative of the School of Music.

As an educator, Josh has been on staff with the Cary High School Marching Band for six years and serves as a visual and brass tech. The Cary High School Marching Band is a Bands of America Regional Finalist and Grand National Semi-Finalist, placing them as one of the premier high school marching bands in the country. Josh is also on staff with the Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps, a DCI Open Class corps based out of Raleigh, NC. In his first year on staff as a brass and visual tech, the corps was the DCA Class A World Champion. Additionally, Josh teaches private trumpet lessons to middle and high school trumpeters in the Raleigh area. His students have gone on to make All-District Band, and march with some of the top drum corps. While attending the University of Delaware, Josh also coached a trumpet ensemble who competed at the 2020 National Trumpet Competition.

As an arranger, Josh writes for a variety of ensembles, but mainly trumpet ensemble, brass quintet, and marching band. Notably, he commissioned a work for trumpet ensemble which was performed in the Quarterfinals of the 2020 National Trumpet Competition. Additionally, Josh’s arranging can be heard by the 2021-2022 Cary High School Indoor Winds. 

Josh graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While at the university, he studied with Mark Clodfelter and performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Casella Sinfonietta, and NTC Trumpet Ensemble. Additionally, Josh graduated summa cum laude with his Master of Music in Music Education in 2021.
